WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
A potent slow moving storm system will approach West Tennessee tonight and stall out and linger over the next few days. Things are going to change quickly though tonight. Some storms are rotating in Arkansas and are about 3 hours away from moving into West Tennessee. They should weaken some but there is a chance that are still a problem tonight for us. More storms are coming Wednesday evening too! There are more severe weather concerns in the forecast on Friday and again Sunday this weekend. We are going to be looking at some very active weather through the 3 day weekend and you need to stay weather aware
TONIGHT:
If you have things you need to get down outdoors this week, Tuesday was by far the best day to do it. Showers and storms stayed away on Tuesday but will be returning late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. It was quite breezy at times on Tuesday with southwest winds between 10-15 mph. There was some afternoon clouds but overall we encountered a mostly sunny day. Highs on Tuesday will made it up close to 90°. If we had hit 90°, it would have been the first time in 2024. Tuesday night lows will be high and dip down to around 70°. Storms will move in tonight with some of the being strong, rain chances are 70% overnight in West Tennessee.
WEDNESDAY:
Two rounds of storms are likely on Wednesday, each could bring severe weather to West Tennessee. The first round will show up in the early morning hours but should clear out into the afternoon. Gusty winds will be the main threat with the early morning storms that will likely impact some morning commutes in our area. Highs will reach the mid 80s and expect a mostly cloudy day with a few peaks of sunshine in the afternoon. Chances for rain on Wednesday is 80% as of now between the two rounds.
The late round of storms will show up in the evening hours and could continue into the first half of the night on Wednesday into Thursday morning. Gusty winds will again be the main threat, but some large hail or a tornado cannot be ruled out as of now. The northwestern counties in our viewing area are currently under a enhanced risk (3/5) but the rest of West Tennessee is under a level 2 or at least a level 1 as well southeast of Madison county. Wednesday night lows will fall to the upper 60s. The winds will come out of the south most of the day and be breezy at times as the front gets a little closer before it stalls out.
THURSDAY:
Another round of showers and storms are expected to develop again on Thursday. The cold front bringing the severe storms on Wednesday will stall out close enough to our area that some more rain and storms look likely. Some of the storms could be strong but the severe weather threat on Thursday appears to be much lower than it will be on Wednesday. Expect another mostly cloudy day and the winds on Thursday will come out of the southwest for the most part. Chances for rain on Thursday sit at 40% as of now and Thursday night lows will fall down again to the upper 60s.
FRIDAY:
Another low pressure system riding the stalled out front looks to be heading our way to wrap up the work week. It looks as of now more storms are coming with some of them being strong and maybe severe again. Expect another mostly cloudy day with the winds remaining out of the south. The southerly winds will keep the humidity up all week long across West Tennessee but will help fuel the showers and storms as well. Highs on Friday will be a little cooler and reach the low 80s under the clouds and showers all day. Rain chances on Friday are 70% already. Friday night lows will only dip to the upper 60s.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND:
As of now we are going to keep rain in the forecast for each day of the 3 day weekend. The forecast could change depending on where the late week storm system tracks as it approaches and slides across the Mid South. It will be a warm and humid weekend with southerly winds regardless if we get the storms or not. If you have outdoor plans this weekend you need to monitor the forecast closely as the week progresses to determine the best day for outdoor plans. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s with morning lows in the upper 60s. The winds are forecast to have a southerly component to them all weekend long as well. There is also a chance for some stronger storms or severe weather this weekend as well, and we will sort out the threat as we get closer to the weekend before you finalize your plans.
FINAL THOUGHT:
The weather is looking quite wet for most of the week and upcoming holiday weekend in West Tennessee. A few rounds of severe weather look likely this week so please stay weather aware and check on the weather forecast. Temperatures will stay above normal all week and the humidity looks to be a factor the entire week as well. If you are looking for a dry day, Tuesday will be your day as chances for rain are at least 30% each day through Memorial day with several days already above a 70% chance. We will be tracking the storms all week in the 7 Storm Team Weather Center and you need to monitor the forecast as well if you are planning on some outdoor activities for the upcoming 3-day weekend.
